The purpose of using social media is to let your customers engage with your brand in an interactive way, as cheaply as possible and with a low barrier to entry. Used properly, content distributed via social media can help you by promoting awareness of your company’s services, getting feedback directly from customers and creating brand ambassadors who will sell your brand for you. With these potential benefits on offer, it is easy to see why companies are choosing to get involved with marketing channels which were originally dedicated to personal connections. It can be tempting to assume that in this brave new world there are no standards you need to abide by. This just isn’t the case.
